I choose these quotations about power as it refers to electricity, since that is what this blog is about. Sometimes though, I'll select a quotation about power, as it relates to the human condition.

Aleksandr Isayevich Solzhenitsyn (11 December 1918 – 3 August 2008) was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1970. He was expelled from the Soviet Union in 1974, but returned to Russia in 1994 after the Soviet system had collapsed. He said, "You only have power over people so long as you don't take everything away from them. But when you've robbed a man of everything, he's no longer in your power - he's free again."

Bringing Meaning To Madness

Our current Congress has been instrumental in robbing the American people of our rights and have abused the office to which they have been elected. They have elevated themselves to a status of unaccountable and have given themselves and their chosen friends a treasured lifestyle at our expense, while blatantly lying to us all. Most recently there has been a change in party dominance and if true beneficial changes are going to take place we should see some positive steps in the right direction in 2015. If however those positive changes do not start to show up soon and with a major impact, they should all be impeached! The whole system needs a moral overhaul.

Then send them the one and only message they truly listen to. Remove them from office and put a more RESPONSIBLE representative in their place who will actually do something good for this country. I, for one, am fed-up with this Two-Party system that does not know how to live with a budget. I believe all representatives in Washington should have to adhere to the same financial retirement and medical institutions as their constituents. Their retirement should be Social Security just as ours is. The funds that have been set aside for their retirement should be immediately transferred into Social Security and they should also go on Medicare along with the rest of us. Where there is a union of two into the blissful idea of "us", we are now "one"; the ultimate questions that confront all of us with relationships deals with the "me" or "we" (selfish or giving)? Where is the priority and what is the long term plan? If the relationship is going to survive there must be compromises made by each and the percent of compromise should be fair and discussed early.

My wife and I have been constantly balancing the relationship "boat-of-life" to be sure ours is sailing down a smooth river. In researching all the utilities/energy providers serving the great state of Texas based on service and lowest price, I discovered that variable rates was consistently cheaper than fixed rates over an annualized period of time. This holds true especially for commercial users. It took me over two months of pricing analysis going back 5 years to come to the decision of which provider was top on my list. Personally, I had been consistently overcharged by the big two in the state and was very leery of the smaller mom-and-pop providers (one who is a friend of mine) trying to get my business. The seeking of power seems to corrupt by the very nature of wanting to yield ones control over another. So to find power that is in fact truly moral is a rarity in this world. Those born with the natural ability to lead others and are then elevated to a position of power would most likely posses the moral character to do the right and good thing. Beware of those who manipulate, lie and make promises they never intend to keep, for they have no morals.LA Reeveshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00613481850233322823noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2950316437300526221.post-67804338943842274022011-02-27T15:03:00.003-06:002011-02-27T15:36:35.491-06:00Unlimited Power!<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 127px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSA3tyNdca-L-dTBmnd_cRj06y8W3w0mL9Z1DbXBY-jhisbqO1mA_pKVkxpNV1LWhfxPPHssUpoCmA5yd9f62xNRZ__pWHyuYTuZuxiyJ1xEpPKuHS87_pJxfguRQVRUemqDRDYR4LaldH/s320/SPLB_PQ_Sign.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375619195275782770" />Power Quote for the Week

Welcome to Sunday's semi-regular feature. The last one, unlimited power, could be personal or electricity. Regarding electricity, our dependence has become one of "taking it for granted" and "anger" when it is disrupted. And, our utilities are our fiduciaries who are there to not only provide that unlimited power, but to do it at the most efficient price. If they are allowed to make a profit, where does that conflict with their fiduciary responsibility? What improvements do we need to make and what improvements do we want to make? Break them down into two categories and prioritize them; then take the number 1 from each category and focus on them for sixty days or until you have made them a habit. Then add number 2 on each list to your focus for the next 60 days while maintaining action on the original number 1. One even refers to Green Power as "cheap" right now. They are pushing fixed rate and calling them cheap as well. "Lock them in now before the prices start back up". Yes, they will eventually go up but not for a long time. Natural Gas is plentiful right and producers are weighing the benefits of continuing to drill since the economics are near break even or a loss in some cases. They are praying the economy improves so prices will again achieve the exorbitant levels of the recent past so they can pad their bulging pockets at middle class expense. Excuse me for digressing. Just remember that when utilities are pushing you toward a direction, it is in their best interest, not yours.

Bringing Meaning To Madness

Be vigilant, alert, when commercials are trying to steer you away from or toward a specific direction, and especially when they use terms that refer to your best interest, or save you money, or lock in now before.......LA Reeveshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00613481850233322823noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2950316437300526221.post-22530588322446029712010-08-08T17:20:00.002-05:002010-08-08T17:44:17.095-05:00End of Summer!<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 100px; height: 100px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_L9ttF3cJsgEkjb4zJkD0y-xZa3Qky9fwF6Pit7iMHPBk5ks0h-Zar5gjBjqpRl7X-75ZnRP4VOj_6sl5oQANdyCt_q3nHjXoH4diMAo7xK_yndHK7v4tb16423mb9et-RuRPuv3208N5/s320/Favicon+splb.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5383969781605141090" />It's still August! Another season about to end and time to reflect.

It is hard to believe another summer/season is about to come to a close.

For those who have the time, peace and quiet to reflect on the end of another season, whether that season is a calendar one or a life cycle one, it is always good to take stock of where you are, where you've been and where are you headed. I do not do that enough in my life to make concrete plans to improve and really focus on just what is really important; and am I making the necessary steps to get there?

It is so true, the saying, "In the beginning we make the habits and in the end the habits make us". My life is good and I do not celebrate it appropriately. I take most of it for granted until I really stop and analyze it. To make changes for the better takes courage and determination, sometimes referred to as character. Doing the right thing in all circumstances in today's world is almost unheard of. Do you have that kind of courage?

Bringing Meaning To Madness

Find the courage to do the right thing throughout your daily life and make those changes that are necessary to keep you motivated, strong and an active member of our American society. Do not dwell on past mistakes, but be motivated to improve.

I have really enjoyed this summer, and hope you have had some pleasant experience as well. Every week you can look for a witty, wise, or profound quotation from assorted folks about power.

I choose these quotations about power as it refers to electricity, since that is what this blog is about. Sometimes though, I'll select a quotation about power, as it relates to the human condition.

William Hazlitt (10 April 1778 – 18 September 1830) was an English writer, remembered for his humanistic essays and literary criticism, and as a grammarian and philosopher. He said, "The love of liberty is the love of others; the love of power is the love of ourselves."

Bringing Meaning To Madness

It is unfortunate that so many of our public servants fit the later, rather than the former. A day we honor our dads. I hope your dad was a wonderful man and father. My dad loved all of us and was a pretty good dad.

Dads are supposed to be head of the household leader and protector.

What is it about most dads? They are either exceptional or lousy. Very few fall in the mediocre category. There are times when I look back over my own life as a father and think I must be exceptional for the love, patience and guidance I have given to my children. Then there are times when I examine my life in detail and the reality sets in and I say to myself, "I must be a lousy father". When all is said and done only my children can vouch for my character, be it good or lacking. All I know is that I love each and every one of them and would gladly give my life to save theirs.

Leave it to say, my father and I had issues. I loved him very much, but I did not like a lot of things he did. The last few years of his life he lived in a nursing home and I rarely visited him. He died 31 days after my mother was taken by pancreatic cancer seven years ago. He and I never really cleared the air between us, it was sort of a mutual understanding not to really discuss it. I know he loved me, my brother and sister, but he marched to his own beat.

Life is pretty messy sometimes and our parents in most ways either provide a positive or negative approach that we as young adults will either emulate or rebel against.

Bringing Meaning To Madness

Dad's you set the living life standards for the family. You are to heed your wife's council and be fair and just. If you don't your family will pay the consequences. BE a parent and take responsibility for yourself and your children's actions.LA Reeveshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00613481850233322823noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2950316437300526221.post-42556129949704847722010-06-13T14:44:00.003-05:002010-06-13T15:05:59.743-05:00Powerless!<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 100px; height: 100px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_L9ttF3cJsgEkjb4zJkD0y-xZa3Qky9fwF6Pit7iMHPBk5ks0h-Zar5gjBjqpRl7X-75ZnRP4VOj_6sl5oQANdyCt_q3nHjXoH4diMAo7xK_yndHK7v4tb16423mb9et-RuRPuv3208N5/s320/Favicon+splb.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5383969781605141090" />Being Powerless is agonizing! Most parents at one time or another do experience this.

Powerless to do something for another is heartbreaking.

When your child is in pain and there is nothing you can do to ease it or relieve it you get that horrible feeling of being powerless. My wife and I have had that sensation too many times in our lives and are going through it again. You call your family Dr. (and several others) and can't reach him, leaving a voice mail to please call you as soon as possible. You do not go to the emergency anymore, for you know nothing will be done for hours, if at all (been there and added to the frustration and expense). Somehow in the end we all survive and learn something along the way. We also learn that one can never be prepared for all situations in life.

Bringing Meaning To Madness

In cases where pain, and powerless to change it occur, remain calm, use common sense and be persistent until the situation is resolved.
