Unlimited Power?

Power Quote for the Week

Welcome to Sunday's regular feature. Every week you can look for a witty, wise, or profound quotation from assorted folks about power.

I choose these quotations about power as it refers to electricity, since that is what this blog is about. Sometimes though, I'll select a quotation about power, as it relates to the human condition.

Ashleigh Ellwood Brilliant (born 9th December 1933 in London, UK) is an author and syndicated cartoonist living in Santa Barbara, California, USA. He is best known for his Pot-Shots, single-panel illustrations with one-line humorous remarks, which began syndication in the United States of America in 1975. He said, "All I want is a warm bed and a kind word and unlimited power."

Bringing Meaning To Madness

Don't we all! Face it, it just will not happen. We all want a warm bed, and we all appreciate a kind word, but who really thinks they can handle unlimited power? Life is hard work, mentally and physically. Balance is the key to continued energy.

Power Out of Control!

Mary Parker Follett (3 September 1868 – 18 December 1933) was an American social worker, management consultant and pioneer in the fields of organizational theory and organizational behavior. She said, "There are three ways of dealing with difference: domination, compromise, and integration. By domination only one side gets what it wants; by compromise neither side gets what it wants; by integration we find a way by which both sides may get what they wish."

Bringing Meaning To Madness

It is unfortunate that our government does not use integration to move our country forward. A dominate party congress does not benefit anyone, where the new laws lead to more government control. Where are the real checks and balances? Why does one party feel that government should control our lives instead of allowing us the decision to design our own lives according to the original intent of the Constitution? Do you know the difference between a Republic and a Democracy? The United States of America is a Republic! Our current dominate party has set the path towards a democracy - the downfall of a great nation.

Henry Clay, Sr. (April 12, 1777 – June 29, 1852), was a nineteenth-century American statesman and orator who represented Kentucky in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, where he served as Speaker. He also served as Secretary of State from 1825 to 1829. He said, "The arts of power and its minions are the same in all countries and in all ages. It marks its victim; denounces it; and excites the public odium and the public hatred, to conceal its own abuses and encroachments."

Bringing Meaning To Madness

Oh my, so apply stated and so true of our two party system and seemingly getting worse as time goes on. Our current leaders are taking this Republic down a road to self destruction while blaming each other for the demise. It is time to remove the cancer in Congress and replace it with moral common sense and limit government's control over our daily lives. Less government, more freedom of choice!
"If it weren't for electricity, we'd all be watching television by candlelight." ~ George Gobel
